The Mugello, a few kilometers from Florence, mantains an ancient charm and has much to offer to the modern traveller. Silent waters, delightful countryside, friendly, peaceful and hardworking people, healthy food, the wine roads, museums, old churches and convents are also integral pieces of the Tuscan communities. History and Culture are combined with high quality of services in a new context with nature.

This zone was first occupied by Etruscan colonies and then became Roman villages.

The Medici family left behind testimony of their dominating wealth and political power in the many convents, castles and villas that still remain.
In addition, Vicchio is the birthplace of the famous Italian artists Giotto, Frà Angelico and Andrea del Castagno.

Where We Are
Antigue Arts and Trades provide motive for fascinating excursions. The comprehension of “the life that was” represents the way to understand today the world in which we live.

Still working water mills add to the charm of the landscape scenery. The abundant sandstone supply provides the raw material used by the antigue style knife-makers whose intricate handwork constructs fountains, fireplaces and capitals (column pieces).

The process of olive oil production dates back to the Etruscan era and leaves its impressions on todays olive presses. From November to mid-December the olive presses are in full swing and it is during that time that dives are cold pressed.

The region is also known for handmade straw seats for chairs, handmade wine barrels and carpentry using antique techniques.

Where We Are
For centuries the fine art of wine and gourmet appreciation has been linked to the traditions and the way of life in the Mugello Valley. A splendid decanter of Chianti, the traditional Florentine-styles steaks, as well as the intense color of deliciuos olive oil that dresses fresh garden salads and white Tuscan beans, are all part of a harmonious passage from the faraway mountain ranges to the nearby rolling hills.

In 1997 the first “wine road of Italy” was initiated in the territory. From the Kingdom of the Chianti Rufina D.O.C.G. and Pomino DOC region come two fabulous wines which are both known for their bountiful personalities and have been appreciated for centuries. Fifteen different establishments participate in the compilation of the wine road and have opened theis casltes, villas and farmhouses to tourist visits.
